OTTER LLC, a technology company working toward making mobile communication safer and more efficient, offers its Text and Drive solution, which is now compatible with Ford SYNC-equipped vehicles.

The OTTER app, available on multiple smartphone platforms, provides end-users with a tool that compliments their mobile lives and greatly reduces the temptation to text and drive.

“This is our existing Android (News - Alert) product that can put Ford driver’s eyes back on the road while their texts are being answered,” explains Erik Wood, founder and CEO of OTTER, in a statement.

The company, which is actively engaged in the design and development of additional technology solutions to expand their suite of products for the mobile communications, automotive and mobile social networking markets, tested the OTTER app on a Ford F350 and a Ford Expedition.

Following the test, the company made sure that the new text notifications were silenced on the smartphone and no audio played over the system speakers while a text auto reply stating, “The OTTER user is driving” to the incoming text.

The OTTER app allows users to hear a phone call if they are using a Bluetooth device but it silences texting and other alerts, like Twitter or Facebook (News - Alert) notifications, when vehicle speed is detected.

“This is exciting news for us as we believe that our current and future products using GPS and messaging will have immediate compatibility with the Ford SYNC platform. That means we can expect faster adoption rates and immediate safety results for drivers,” said Troy Niehaus, OTTER co-owner.

Niehaus said it is optimistic about its compatibility with any new vehicle on-board systems, regardless of the maker.
