Smartphone users are increasingly turning to text messaging apps that offer cheap or free international texting service. These apps have undeniably cut a major share in the revenue of mobile service providers, but have helped improve communications among mobile users.

Voxofon, a voice and text messaging service provider, is offering its advanced text messaging solution for popular smartphones. The company has released Voxofon 3.5.0 for iPhone, Windows Phone, Windows 8, and Android (News - Alert), bringing mobile users closer together with text messaging.

The new Voxofon 3.5.0 is also designed to bridge the gap between smartphone and feature phone users. Voxofon is the first VoIP app to offer a text messaging component which allows smartphone users to chat with feature phone users seamlessly.

Voxofon also offers free text messaging between Voxofon users – whether they use Voxofon on a smartphone, tablet, or through Voxofon.com, the company said.

Despite smartphones overtaking feature phones in some developed markets, the world as a whole heavily relies on feature phones. According to Morgan Stanley Researchers, in 2011, there were 5.6 billion feature phone users worldwide compared to only 835 million smartphone users.

Until now, whenever a smartphone user wanted to send a cheap text to a friend using a feature phone, the smartphone user would be unable to view the friend's response.   Voxofon, through its new text messaging application, addresses this issue.
