GL Unveils SMS Testing Solutions to Test Text MessagingGL Communications (News - Alert), a supplier of test, monitoring, and analysis equipment for TDM, Wireless, IP and VoIP networks, announced the launch of Short Message Service (SMS) Testing Solutions to test text messaging available through mobile phone, Web or other wireless communication systems. Most SMS messages are mobile-to-mobile text messaging services; however, the standard supports other types of broadcast messaging as well. “GL offers solutions that test the service end-to-end, from smart mobile phone-to-smart mobile phone as well as from within the wireless infrastructure. In testing end to end, a "smartphone app" is commanded to send or receive SMS messages and record results such as pass or fail. The results are conveyed to a database that can be easily accessed by any browser,” explained Vijay Kulkarni CEO, GL. When testing from within the wireless infrastructure, thousands to millions of messages can be sent to thousands to millions of mobile phones in a simulated environment to load test or verify / validate the SMS protocol, Kulkarni added. Thanks to GL’s Message Automation and Protocol Simulation (MAPS), the short messages can be pushed or pulled over the network as if they were sent by thousands of mobile phones. MAPS can also transmit a Short Message to a mobile phone (Short Message Mobile Terminated (SMS-MT)). GL’s SMS testing solution supports GSM, UMTS, and MAP interfaces. The MAPS application from GL facilitates Short Message Service (SMS) delivery across various network interfaces such as GSM A, GSM Abis, GSM A over IP, MAP over IP, UMTS IuCS, and UMTS IuH and more. In a significant development earlier this year, GL Communications announced the launch of its TDM Protocol Identifier Software, which is designed to identify various protocols carried on T1 or E1 lines. The Protocol Identifier Software is also capable of detecting protocols such as ISDN, ATM, HDLC, MTP2, LAPD, SS7, PPP, GSM, GSM Abis, TRAU and Frame Relay.
